Millwall boss reacts to victory and main challenge at Bromley – and gives update on Aidomo Emakhu.

Millwall manager Alex Neil was pleased with his team’s performance in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Bromley.

The Lions defeated the League Two outfit thanks to goals from Ra’ees Bangura-Williams and Mihailo Ivanovic, as Millwall began preparations for the 2025-26 season. “I thought we were the dominant side in the game,” Neil told NewsAtDen.

“During the first half, we probably created four or five good opportunities. “Towards the end of the first half, they had a shot that the keeper saved for us, a header from a set-play, and a corner that was deflected.

So I thought in the last two minutes of the first half, they gained some momentum behind the ball.

“Overall, we probably should have led in the first half. We didn’t, and it was simply a matter of being patient and taking advantage of the next opportunity that presented itself.

“We scored two very similar goals; we got down the sides, cut back, and finished.

And that settled the game for us; we were a little calmer at that point.” Neil did admit that Bromley caused Millwall problems late on, after a lengthy stoppage due to Ravens defender Carl Jenkinson’s injury.

Neil stated, “Bromley were a little more physical in the final 30 minutes. We did not cope as well as we could have.

“They get a set-play, which is a little scrappy from our perspective; we didn’t handle it well enough, and things got a little messy near the end.

“I thought the pitch had started to dry out. The pitch has been left slightly longer [in grass length], I believe, than it would normally be.

Overall, it was a good workout and a good test for us, and we performed admirably.” Aidomo Emakhu was forced to leave late after coming on as a substitute.

Neil said, “I believe the length of the pitch [grass] was a major factor. When the ball was passed to the wide players, it was difficult for them to move their feet. The ball became sticky the more times it was turned over. “So, yeah, it was difficult to get that burst of speed in the last third.

When that is the case, we need to turn them more, which we did at the start of the second half, and that is where we got our goals. On Emakhu’s knock, Neil added: “I don’t think it looks a big injury at the moment, but it’s just happened, so we’ll need to see how he feels tomorrow and the next day.”
