Millwall are weighing up a move for Cardiff City goalkeeper coach Gavin Ward as a possible addition to their coaching staff, according to a report from journalist Richard Cawley.
Ward is being considered as a replacement for Andy Marshall, with Millwall set for significant changes behind the scenes following the appointment of Alex Neil as manager. Marshall, who has served the club as goalkeeper coach since 2022, is expected to move on as Neil assembles a backroom team aligned with his vision and philosophy.
Alex Neil was appointed Millwall boss in December following the departure of Neil Harris. Since taking charge, Neil has made it clear he intends to revamp key areas of the club in a bid to mount a serious push for promotion to the Premier League. Gavin Ward, 53, is a highly respected figure in the Championship coaching circuit. A former goalkeeper himself, Ward has a wealth of experience having worked with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Burton Albion, and Queens Park Rangers before joining Cardiff City. He has been widely credited for his work with Cardiff’s goalkeepers in recent seasons, notably helping Jak Alnwick and Ethan Horvath reach new levels in their performances.
His potential move to The Den would reunite him with Neil, with the two having previously worked together at Preston North End. That familiarity could be key for Neil as he looks to ensure a cohesive and trusted coaching unit.
