Millwall must end 57-year nightmare against Norwich City at Carrow Road

Millwall have established themselves as one of the dark horses for the top six in the Championship in 2025/26, as they prepare for their season opener.

The Lions make the trip to Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon to face Norwich City, a side who will also be in and around the top six by the time May rolls around.

Millwall supporters are excited about Alfie Doughty, with the left-sided ace set to make his debut for his boyhood club this weekend in Norfolk.

Alex Neil will need his new superstar to be at his very best against a Norwich side who have kept hold of Josh Sargent for now, and the Canaries will be looking to continue their impressive home record over their opponents.

Millwall have not beaten Norwich City at Carrow Road since 1968

Although Millwall did finish above the Norfolk outfit last season, one thing stayed consistent in their battles against one another.

Norwich defeated the Lions in their first meeting of the campaign at Carrow Road, extending the South London side’s awful run in NR1.

Millwall have not beaten the Canaries on their own patch since 1968, with a 3-0 win in the second tier the last time they tasted success on their travels against their opponents for this weekend – an incredible 57 years ago.

They have drawn just seven of those 25 games, and Norwich will be full of confidence heading into Saturday knowing the Lions’ wretched history in Norfolk.

The Lions will take confidence from victory at The Den in 2024/25

There is no denying that throughout history, Millwall have struggled against the Canaries. However, they did run out 3-1 winners at The Den back in April.

Mihailo Ivanovic, a player who Neil is determined to keep, scored twice alongside a Femi Azeez strike to take all three points in the latter stages of last season, with Shane Duffy scoring what proved to be aconsolation goal on the stroke of half-time.

Nevertheless, Norwich have had the advantage since their first meeting back in 1920 when they ran out 2-0 winners over Millwall, but this is perhaps the best chance the Lions have of taking all three points at Carrow Road for a long time.
