Millwall offered former goalkeeper two-year deal, Alex Neil reveals

Millwall offered former goalkeeper two-year deal, Alex Neil reveals.

Millwall offered former custodian Liam Roberts a two-year contract this summer, according to Alex Neil at a fans’ forum on Monday, 28 July.

Roberts joined the Lions ahead of the 2024-25 season and filled in for Lukas Jensen, making two league appearances while the Dane was out injured and starting four cup games.

Roberts’ current contract was set to expire at the end of June, so the club attempted to sign him to a two-year extension.

Neil stated that Roberts enquired whether he would be guaranteed the No. 1 spot next season with Jensen out injured for an indefinite period of time, but the club could not guarantee him that.

Neil confirmed Roberts’ red card in Millwall’s FA Cup Third Round match against Crystal Palace, and said the subsequent media coverage had no bearing on his decision.
This summer, Millwall signed two goalkeepers on loan from Fulham, Max Crocombe and Steven Benda, who Neil says will provide cover and competition at the position.
