Lauren Blackburn, a Princeton University student who had gone missing since April 19, was discovered dead in a lake near campus, according to the school.
Princeton’s dean of undergraduate students, Regan Crotty, announced in a letter to students and faculty that Blackburn, 23, was found dead at Lake Carnegie on April 25. The cause of death has not been released.
“We know that every member of our community joins us in sending our condolences to Lauren’s family, friends, and loved ones and in wishing them strength in this most difficult time,” Crotty wrote, for example.
Blackburn, who was expected to graduate in 2026, was last seen around 6 p.m. ET on April 19 near the university’s Firestone Library, according to a school announcement on April 22.
The Department of Public Safety led the search that week, enlisting the help of regional law enforcement, according to Princeton updates. The Daily Princetonian, the university’s student newspaper, reported that a water search began on the night of April 21 after “a missing person’s phone” was discovered near Lake Carnegie.
Earlier this week, the school issued a warning about increased police presence on campus during this time.
