MK READS IN EFL TROPHY AND SLIDES TO A LATE DEFEAT

After being defeated by a late goal in Berkshire, MK Dons lost to Reading 1-0 in the EFL Trophy. The Royals won the match at Select Car Leasing Stadium when Sean Patton scored the game’s lone goal in the 88th minute.
A loss would virtually secure the Dons’ elimination from the competition’s group stage, which would be mathematically verified if West Ham U21s defeated Swindon Town in their match on 28 October. Paul Warne chose to rest all 11 players who started their victory against Gillingham at Stadium MK over the weekend, while Reading made ten changes for the match.
A free-kick was headed across goal above custodian Connal Trueman, who had rushed out in a failed attempt to intercept, and the ball fell for Patton to tip home in the 88th minute, giving the game its lone goal. On Saturday, MK Dons will return to league play when they travel to play Bristol Rovers. On November 11th, their last EFL Trophy group stage assignment is scheduled.
