Fire Crews Rush to Swindon’s Old Town Property After Kitchen Blaze
Emergency services rushed to a property on Victoria Road in Swindon’s Old Town this afternoon after a fire broke out, prompting a swift response from multiple fire crews.
At exactly 12.51pm, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a blaze at a residential address. Engines from Swindon, Westlea, and Stratton fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they worked quickly to contain the incident.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the ground floor of the property. According to a spokesperson for the fire service, the fire originated from a small electricity unit located in the kitchen area. The blaze, while contained to the kitchen, caused significant concern due to the potential for it to spread further through the property.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to extinguish the flames, using hose reel jets to tackle the fire directly. Positive pressure ventilation was also deployed to clear the smoke from the property once the fire had been brought under control.
“The fire involved a small electricity unit in the kitchen on the ground floor,” a spokesperson confirmed. “Thanks to the quick actions of our crews, the fire was prevented from spreading to other parts of the building.”
No injuries were reported, and all occupants were safely accounted for. It is understood that the residents had evacuated the property before the arrival of emergency services, following standard fire safety advice.
The fire service praised the swift call made by the residents, noting that early notification greatly assisted their efforts to prevent the incident from escalating. Crews remained on scene for over an hour, carrying out safety inspections and ensuring that the area was fully secure before leaving.
An investigation into the cause of the fire determined that it was accidental, linked to a fault within the small electrical unit. The fire service has since reminded the public to regularly check and maintain electrical appliances to avoid similar incidents.
“We would like to remind residents to check their electrical appliances and ensure that any damaged or aging equipment is replaced,” the spokesperson added. “Small faults can lead to serious consequences if not addressed promptly.”
Victoria Road, a busy thoroughfare in Old Town, saw some minor traffic disruption while emergency vehicles attended the scene. Officers from Wiltshire Police assisted in managing traffic and ensuring that the public kept a safe distance while firefighters worked.
Neighbours expressed relief that the incident was contained quickly, with one resident commenting, “It was frightening to see so many fire engines, but they were amazing. It could have been much worse if they hadn’t arrived so quickly.”
As of,12 .30pm, the area had returned to normal, with no lasting damage to surrounding properties reported. The fire service’s intervention is being credited with preventing what could have become a far more serious event.
