Numerous Departments Respond to Fierce House Fire

 

More than 50 firefighters were deployed early this morning to battle a ferocious blaze that tore through a residential property in Bath, prompting a major multi-agency emergency response.

 

The fire broke out shortly before 6:00 AM at a detached home in the Lansdown area, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and alarming nearby residents. Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they received multiple 999 calls reporting flames engulfing the property and possible explosions heard from within.

 

Crews from Bath, Hicks Gate, Temple, Kingswood, and surrounding fire stations were dispatched, along with specialist equipment including aerial ladder platforms and water carriers. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with an intense and rapidly spreading fire that had already consumed a significant portion of the house.

 

Station Manager Mark Saunders, who was one of the first officers on the scene, said the fire was “well-developed” upon arrival and required immediate escalation to a six-pump response. “Given the scale of the fire and the potential for it to spread to adjacent properties, we had to act quickly and decisively,” Saunders explained. “Our teams worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and protect neighboring homes.”

 

Residents in nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution, and police officers set up a safety cordon while paramedics stood by in case of injuries. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties, and it is believed that the homeowners were not inside at the time the fire broke out.

 

Local resident Sarah Jenkins, who lives two doors down, described the terrifying moment she saw the flames. “I woke up to this loud popping sound and when I looked out the window, the whole side of the house was glowing orange,” she said. “The smoke was unbelievable—thick and black. It was honestly terrifying.”

 

Firefighters remained on site for several hours, working in shifts to damp down hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Thermal imaging cameras and breathing apparatus were used throughout the operation. By mid-morning, the flames were under control, though significant damage had already been done.

 

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with fire investigators combing through the debris to determine how it started. Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a full report will be issued in the coming days.

 

A spokesperson for the service thanked the public for their cooperation during the incident and praised the efforts of all emergency teams involved. “This was a major incident that required a coordinated and professional response, and we are grateful to all departments who assisted.”

 

The affected property has been deemed uninhabitable, and support is being provided to the homeowners by the local council and emergency housing services.
