‘Most Likely’ – John Mousinho Explains Portsmouth’s Transfer Approach.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has revealed that his club is looking at a couple of free agents, but the summer will be mostly spent paying fees and bringing players in on loan.
Portsmouth, led by Mousinho, demonstrated strong character in the second half of the season to avoid relegation from the Championship.
As they prepare for their second season in the second tier, Fratton Park’s summer transfer plans are already taking shape.
Mousinho hopes to bring back Rob Atkinson, but acknowledges Pompey’s reliance on Bristol City’s plans.
The Portsmouth manager anticipates a summer transfer window in which his team will acquire loan players while also paying transfer fees for others.

He insists that the market has changed for many clubs, and that free agents are no longer the norm, with player fees now paid on a regular basis.
Mousinho admits, however, that he has his eye on a few free agents and is interested in signing them.

| Portsmouth 1-0 Watford | 21/04 |
“There aren’t many free agents available,” Mosinho told the BBC (7:35).
“Clubs nowadays are starting to do business a little differently than they did five, six, and seven years ago, when short-term contracts were common throughout the leagues.

“You don’t get a lot of people who run down their contracts for the wrong reasons, but because they know they’ll be able to leave.
“And it will not be the club’s decision.
“I believe that has changed; players are now more likely to be tied down to longer contracts, as evidenced by the business we did this season.
“Because we are now a Championship club, the contracts we are discussing are different.
“So, we need to change our approach.
“That’s not to say there aren’t any free agents out there; there are a few we’re very interested in.
“But it is most likely going to be a combination of paying fees for players and then bringing loans in.”
As they prepare for another Championship campaign, Portsmouth will be eager to build on the foundations laid earlier this season.
Mousinho helped transform Fratton Park into a fortress, and he will be eager to propel Pompey to the next level.
