Mum of Leeds United fan who fell from tree during promotion parade issues statement
An update on the serious injuries sustained by a Leeds United supporter who fell from a tree during the city centre
promotion celebrations has been released by his mother.
Following her oldest son Edward’s fall from a tree during the promotion parade, Stacey Barker made social media
posts. Leeds supporters climbed trees along the route in a number of pictures to get a closer look at Daniel Farke and
the team as they rode an open-top bus around the city.
However, Stacey’s son collapsed after climbing a tree in Millennium Square, and pictures show an ambulance
frantically attempting to slowly make its way through the crowd of onlookers to get to the injured fan. The fan was
rushed to the hospital, according to West Yorkshire Police, and his mother has since verified on Facebook that he is
in a coma.
Stacey provided an update in a post that received over 350 comments, 1,000 likes, and hugs. “My oldest son was hurt
during Leeds United’s victory parade on Bank Holiday Monday, as some of you may already be aware,” she stated.
This is to clarify a few things for those who don’t.

lining the procession in Leeds city centre. As far as I am aware, he had consumed alcohol but I am confident he
wasn’t paralytic as some posts are suggesting. Edward likes to drink, but I have never had any reason to suspect drug
use in his case. “At some point during the victory celebrations, my son has fallen from this tree, where he was sat at a
significant height hitting the concrete below him and, as a result, he has sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.
He was taken to LGI immediately, in a critical condition, where we joined him around 50 minutes later. His injuries
are extensive and, over 24 hours later, he remains in a coma.”
His mum added: “To further clarify, he has done nothing any other young lad hasn’t in their lifetime. He climbed a
tree, he’d had a few bottles, he was high on nothing but life and he’s been incredibly unlucky. Unfortunately, it was a
freak accident that is likely to affect him, and all of us, whatever the outcome, for many years to come.
“Although I understand that people are concerned about him and are clinging to any information they may have
received, this is the reality as it stands right now. I am unable to respond to messages one-on-one at this time
because my son and my other kids come first. We appreciate those who have merely sent a message expressing their
prayers and thoughts for him. We all want him to have all the luck and prayers in the world right now.
“I’m hoping he shows the same resilience, the same strength, the same character we’ve all come to know and love
him for in the coming days/weeks and months ahead.”
