Mundle starts: Sunderland team news and predicted XI to face Sheffield United

This Saturday, Sunderland will meet Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
After missing out on the Championship play-offs the previous time, Sunderland has had a fantastic season and finished in the playoffs this time. In five of their previous seven seasons, SAFC has participated in playoffs.

The Black Cats broke their play-off curse in 2022 when they won the League One playoffs. Sunderland’s League One run came to an end with a spectacular victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley.

SAFC now has the opportunity to put an end to their eight-year absence from the Premier League. Since their relegation in 2017, they have never come this close to the top flight.

Sunderland will be extremely confident after defeating Coventry City in the semi-final under the most dramatic circumstances. When Dan Ballard headed home from Enzo Le Fee’s corner with the game’s last touch, they guaranteed their place at Wembley.

Compared to their rivals, Sheffield United, they enter the final as the underdog. Despite being docked two points at the beginning of the season, the Blades ended 14 points ahead of SAFC.

News about the Sunderland team
Ahead of the trip to Wembley, Sunderland has been concerned about a number of injuries. Romaine Mundle has been struggling to get back to match fitness, and Patrick Roberts has been dealing with a calf problem for the past three weeks.

Regis Le Bris has, however, shared some encouraging information in that regard. According to the Sunderland Echo, he stated during his pre-game press conference that every member of his team is available.

In light of Le Bris’ remarks, Aji Alese might also be accessible. He hasn’t played since January and at first thought he would be ready for the semifinals, but his absence raised questions about whether he would play before the season ended.

After his prolonged problems, Ian Poveda was also seen in training this week.

It seems unlikely that Le Bris will make significant changes to the Sunderland team after their outstanding performances in the semi-finals. If Romaine Mundle is healthy enough, there probably won’t be more than one.

Wilson Isidor might be replaced by Mundle, who would start on the left wing. For the first time in months, that will enable Enzo Le Fee to assume a central role.

Following his outstanding defensive performance in the semi-final, Dan Ballard maintains his position at center-back.
