One of Eddie Howe’s greatest acquisitions to date has agreed to a new contract with Newcastle United.
As a reward for his incredible season, Dan Burn is expected to sign a new deal with Newcastle United.
Few could have foreseen what the Blyth-born defender would do when he signed a £13 million contract to join his childhood club from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2022.
Burn, who can play either left or center defense, has made a name for himself in the Magpies’ starting lineup and is an important member of the team’s player leadership group.
Last season, the 33-year-old scored as United defeated Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 at St. James’ Park in the Champions League. His header against Liverpool in March, which helped the team win the Carabao Cup and end its 70-year domestic trophy drought, was a more memorable moment than this one.
Burn made his debut in the 2-0 victory over Albania the very following day, the day after he initially connected with England. After been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s squad once more for the June matches against Andorra and Senegal, you could now argue that he is a regular for England.
It was a tremendous campaign, and a new deal is expected to round it off. Burn’s current contract expires in 2026, but negotiations have been held to extend it, and the Daily Mail reports that conditions have been agreed upon.
Burn stated in an interview in October that he wanted to complete his playing career before maybe going into coaching or the media.
“I’d love to finish my career here,” Burn said. My kids are back with their families, I’ve moved back home, and we get to spend a lot of time with our family. It was always my intention to complete my career here.
We simply need to wait and see. There are many excellent players here, and we’re on the rise, so you should keep trying to play as long as you can.

“In order to keep myself busy, I’ve begun working on my coaching badges and doing small media tasks. After I’m done, I’d really like to continue doing something with the club, whatever it is.
Eddie Howe had nothing but praise for Dan Burn.
Burn began at Darlington and has since ascended the pyramid. Burn has made 148 games and counting for Newcastle, having previously played for Fulham, Brighton, Wigan Athletic, and Yeovil Town on loan.
“He is without a doubt one of my best signings,” Howe stated earlier this year. He has been amazing—even better than I had anticipated for us.
“We knew he was gifted and would make a difference, but when you combine that with his leadership abilities and reliability, he’s been a rock for us and has been essential to everything we’ve done.”
