Boro are looking for a new manager, having decided to cut ways with Michael Carrick.
Steven Gerrard, a Liverpool icon, has emerged as the new frontrunner to succeed Michael Carrick as Middlesbrough manager. The former Rangers and Aston Villa manager is looking for his next football job after quitting Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq.

The 45-year-old, who played over 500 games for Liverpool and 114 appearances for England during his brilliant playing career, won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers in 2021 but found the going tougher after joining Villa Park.
An unsuccessful stint in the Saudi Pro League ended earlier this year, and the former England captain is now thought to be seeking for his next managerial position back in the UK. He is now the 6/4 favourite for the Riverside job, according to the most recent Football Betting odds from BetVictor, with Boro eager to make an appointment before the players return for pre-season training at the end of this month.
Rob Edwards and Steve Cooper have remained popular among bettors after Boro parted ways with Carrick, and both are heavily favored. Both have led teams into the Premier League, with ex-Luton Town manager Edwards priced at 5/2 and ex-Nottingham Forest and Leicester manager Cooper at 3/1.
They are significantly ahead of the rest of the field in the new odds, with former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche now at 8/1 and Aitor Karanka at 12/1 to return to the Riverside.
The Spaniard led Boro to the Premier League in 2016, but failed at Forest and Birmingham City, and has not done so since leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2023.
Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is placed at 16/1, with the former Newcastle and AC Milan striker having Championship experience with Blackburn, alongside former PSV and Benfica manager Roger Schmidt. Brian Priske, the former Feyenoord manager, is priced at 25/1.
