Nico Raskin and the Rangers transfer dilemma as ex star tells club to copy Celtic and avoid repeat of costly mistake
According to Peter Lovenkrands, Rangers’ future owners may have to decide whether to preserve their valued asset Nico Raskin or pay for an Ibrox reconstruction.
Raskin won man-of-the-match with yet another outstanding performance at Sunday’s Old Firm tie with Celtic, where the Dane was present.
He’s been Gers’ finest player in a dismal year but at 24 is a valued, sellable asset.
Lovenkrands would like Raskin to remain at Ibrox for the long run, but he feels Kevin Thelwell, the incoming sporting director, and the prospective American owners who are expected to arrive will need to make a significant decision on the Belgian international’s future.
Additionally, he asserted that they could need to learn from Celtic’s player trade strategy.
Raskin may be the team’s most valuable player, he stated. He has been outstanding and has shown it; he is unquestionably the Rangers’ player of the year.
However, Celtic gets a lot of money when they sell on players who have performed well for them. They have years of experience and are excellent at it.
“We haven’t sold players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos while the Rangers have had them.
With Raskin, you need to consider the wider picture since it is a concern for the club.
“Will you try to assemble the squad around him or will you sell him? Despite his youth, they require income.
If they don’t sell him, where will it come from? What is his value? Depending on which league is examining him. You can always add a little bit more if it’s the Premier League. However, he is unquestionably their most valued player.
Czech winger Vaclav Cerny, who is currently on loan, has also been an outstanding player this season. And Lovenkrands feels they should try to sign him on a permanent basis if there is money to spend in the summer.
“It depends on the club’s situation regarding who takes over and how much it costs to get him,” he stated. Yes, sign him if the takeover occurs and there is funding to support it. However, they might be able to if not.
