Norwich City have made an approach to sign teenage forward Botan Ameen from League Two side Swindon Town, as per The Moonraker.
Norwich City is preparing for another significant summer following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. NCFC fell short of their goals and are now looking for a new boss.
The Canaries surprised many by parting ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup due to poor results, and are now led by caretaker Jack Wilshere. It remains to be seen whether he will be given the position permanently or if an external appointment will be made.
Nonetheless, the Carrow Road club will be making progress on early transfer plans, and one deal appears to have already been made.
According to The Moonraker, Norwich City has made an approach for Swindon Town prospect Botan Ameen.
The 18-year-old has gained the attention of Premier League and Championship clubs after breaking through at the County Ground in recent months. However, NCFC appears to be the most keen to pounce, having made a six-figure offer.
Swindon, on the other hand, has made an improved offer to Ameen, meaning they will be entitled to a higher sum if a move goes to a tribunal when his contract expires later.
Ameen’s emergence
Norwich City has a history of developing young players, so it’s not surprising that Ameen has emerged as a target.
The Iraq youth international previously played in the QPR academy before joining Swindon Town in the summer of 2023. He has since progressed through their youth ranks and broken into the first-team under Ian Holloway.
Ameen, who can play as a striker or winger, appeared 17 times for the League Two club during the 2024-25 season. Despite only turning 18 in April, he contributed two goals and two assists.
Ameen is well regarded at the County Ground, and the club may want him to stay on board and develop more before accepting an offer from someone like NCFC.
Norwich City on the lookout for prospects
Norwich City is no stranger to signing potential young players, often scouting the lower divisions of English football. Kellen Fisher is possibly the most recent success story, having joined with Bromley while they were still in the National League.
Given his young, Ameen could start with the club’s youth teams, gaining experience in Norfolk before moving up to the first squad when they believe he is ready.
Despite the significant increase in playing time, the fact that he has played some football for Swindon may put him in line for a periphery role. Time will tell whether a deal comes too completion through, with Swindon expected to remain fast on their value and others willing.
