Following the departure of Johannes Hoff Thorup in April, Norwich City is looking for a new manager.

The Canaries had an underwhelming Championship campaign, finishing 13th in the table.

Norfolk finished sixth the previous season under David Wagner, but fell 11 points short of the play-offs under the Dane.

Norwich will be hoping that their next hire will be able to bridge that gap and get the team back in contention for Premier League promotion next year.

Here’s the latest news on their search for a permanent replacement for Thorup.

Pepijn Lijnders’ issue

According to Alan Nixon, Norwich will encounter a significant obstacle in their pursuit of Pepijn Lijnders.

The Telegraph reported earlier this month that the ex-Liverpool coach was interviewed for the vacancy, alongside Steve Cooper and Gary O’Neill.

However, it has been claimed that the compensation required to appoint him could prevent the deal from happening.

Although he is currently unemployed, his former employer, RB Salzburg, will require compensation to make him available.

Liam Manning’s consideration

Bristol City manager Liam Manning is reportedly a candidate for the vacant manager position at Carrow Road.

According to Ben Jacobs, the 39-year-old is also being considered by Leicester City for their return to the Championship.

Manning, who came through the Norwich academy system and grew up in the area, led the Robins to sixth place in the table this season. He may have a strong connection to the club and may consider leaving.

However, it remains to be seen whether he is willing to leave Ashton Gate after such a successful campaign.

Bristol Live reports that the Norfolk outfit has yet to make an official approach, leading to speculation.

Jack Wilshere leaves.

After Thorup left the club, Jack Wilshere took over as interim manager of the Norwich first team.

According to the BBC, the coach left the club after being overlooked for a permanent position.

He is looking for his first managerial position after working at Arsenal’s youth academy before joining Thorup’s coaching staff last year.

Wilshere led Norwich to four out of six possible points in his two games in charge.

Thorup plans to return to the Championship

Thorup could make a quick return to the Championship after being fired by Norwich in April.

According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the 36-year-old is in the running for QPR’s managerial position.

The London team is looking for a new head coach following Martí Cifuentes’ departure after finishing 15th in the table.

Thorup led the Canaries to a mid-table finish just a year after the club qualified for the play-offs, but he is set for a quick return to the second division as he nears a move to Loftus Road.
