Norwich City unveil mural to Duncan Forbes at Carrow Road

At Norwich City’s Carrow Road stadium, a mural honouring Norwich City hero Duncan Forbes has been unveiled.

Between the Joma Community Stand and the Regency Security Stand, the former captain’s artwork dominates

Geoffrey Watling Way.

Over the course of 13 years, the Scotsman made 357 appearances for the team, leading them to promotion to the top

level in 1972.

Forbes was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and passed away in 2019 at the age of 78.

He signed for the club in 1968 from Colchester and twice captained the side in League Cup finals at Wembley,

missing out on the trophy in 1973 and 1975.

In 2002, he was inducted as an inaugural member of the club’s hall of fame.

‘Norwich to the core’

The defender, who spent over 33 years with the Canaries overall, continued to be involved with the team after

retiring from competition by taking on scouting and commercial duties.

“We would like to express our delight at the unveiling of the mural to commemorate Duncan’s achievements at the

football club,” the Forbes family stated in a statement.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the club, its board, and its owners for their unflinching support

throughout Duncan’s illness and in the years following his death.

“Duncan would be very proud to be remembered in this way and certainly was Norwich to the core.”

“Duncan will forever be part of the fabric of this football club, and we’re extremely proud to honour him in this way.”

Since his passing, the club has started holding weekly support sessions for dementia patients and their caretakers

called Duncan’s Club.
