Norwich people oppose Sprowston Police Station housing plans
Sprowston Police Station on Wroxham Road is to be converted into two three-bedroom homes and one single-
A two-bedroom home would be built in its place, replacing the current flat-roofed garage.
The plans have been referred to as a “overdevelopment of the site” in a submission to the Broadland District Council
The land would be overdeveloped, a condensed kind of development, and outdoor facilities would be lost if a
bungalow were added to the back of the house.
“Access is hazardous since the proposed entrance is on a sharp turn with poor visibility onto a well-known busy route
that has two schools and a senior citizens club nearby.
After the town’s team relocated to a new base in Postwick next to the A47 and NDR, the location became an
operations hub in 2022.
But according to Mr Orpen-Smellie, there is “no longer a need for this building” because of the changes in the
county’s service delivery methods.
In order to function as a feasible office block, the location is thought to present numerous obstacles for new office
requirements and would necessitate a substantial investment and modifications.
Therefore, the PCC has determined that turning the land into dwellings is the most environmentally friendly course
of action.
According to planning documents provided to the Broadland District Council, Mr. Orpen-Smellie is eager “to achieve
best value for money from property assets” and plans to “provide investment in new properties, vehicles, ICT
Technology and operational equipment” using the proceeds from the sale of Sprowston’s station.
