Not a done deal” – Sheffield United issued hopeful Gustavo Hamer transfer claim

Sheffield United are recovering from a bitter play-off final loss to Sunderland in May, and one of the most significant risks they face this summer is losing the players they wanted to keep for the upcoming season.

Gustavo Hamer and Vini Souza are two of the names most strongly associated with a departure from Bramall Lane this summer.

Hamer has been linked with both Leeds United and Everton, and Souza has been described as “ready to take the next step” in his career.

But will Sheffield United sell?

A claim was made regarding Gustavo Hamer’s future at Sheffield United.

Our Blades fan commentator, Jimmy (aka Blades Ramble), told Football League World that he doesn’t believe Hamer will leave the club this summer.

“I believe Vini Souza is the most likely candidate to go. “I’m not sure whether people will pay the amount we want for Gustavo, and as talented as he is, I believe his ability to finish games is uneven.

“When he’s at his best, he is brilliant. When he’s on his game, he’s the best player on the pitch, but not always. His fitness prevents him from finishing most games.

“He gets the occasional injury (as does Vini, to be fair), and his discipline is extremely terrible. This is just me nitpicking, but I don’t believe Gus Hamer will leave Sheffield United.

Sheffield United have no commitment to sell Gustavo Hamer

Hamer has had two successful seasons with Sheffield United since his £15 million move from Coventry City in 2023. Over the course of two seasons with the Blades, he made more than 80 appearances, 36 of which were in the Premier League.

When he signed with the club, he signed a four-year contract that will keep him there until 2027.

With the amount of money they earn from parachute payments decreasing this summer, the Blades will be eager to maximise every penny they can get from the sale of any player, and the two years remaining on his deal mean they are under no compulsion to sell.

If clubs interested in acquiring Hamer do not match that figure, he is likely to remain at Bramall Lane this summer. Retaining his services would also send a strong message to the rest of the Championship about Sheffield United’s plans for the coming season.

They may have finished last in the 2024/25 season, but they have no intention of doing so again.
