‘Not that type of player’: Wigan manager supports the ‘gutted’ striker after his career, then gives the former Pompey favourite some harsh advise.

Ryan Lowe, the manager of Wigan, has stood up for Christian Saydee after the former Pompey favourite lost badly in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Lincoln. Following an altercation with Tom Bayliss of the Imps during the League One match, the well-liked forward was sent off for the first time in his 147-game career. Saydee tried to block the ball from the arriving Lincoln midfielder in the 68th minute, as shown here, shortly after he assisted Callum Wright in equalising in the second half of a fun match at Sincil Bank. Referee Alan Young was forced to disqualify the attacker after he instead used his studs to catch the former Preston North End player around the ankle.
Lowe later defended his player by stating that Saydee wasn’t “that type of player” and that his actions weren’t malevolent. He informed the “gutted” 23-year-old, though, that he would have to accept Young’s judgement and that the result would be an automatic three-game suspension. “Chris is devastated, because he’s not that type of player, is he?” Lowe said to Wigan Today. He has just attempted to express himself physically; he has not attempted to harm anyone. He feels some contact from his leg. Is it yellow, or is it red? These days, I’m not sure. I don’t really mind it because it would probably result in a red card if VAR was used.
After two years and five goals in 65 league games, the League One champion made the decision to leave Fratton Park since he was not guaranteed that with the Blues in this season’s Championship. It will be disheartening for a player who usually gives it his best on the pitch to be placed on a viewing brief for the forthcoming matches against Wycombe, Bolton and Doncaster Rovers. Furthermore, it will present Lowe with a significant selection headache at a time when his team has won two of their first seven games in the new League One season, putting them in 14th place in the rankings.
The League One champion decided to leave Fratton Park after two years and five goals in 65 league games because he wasn’t assured of that with the Blues in this season’s Championship. For a guy who always gives it his all on the field, it will be disappointing to find himself back on a viewing brief for the upcoming games against Doncaster Rovers, Bolton, and Wycombe. Additionally, it will provide Lowe with a huge selection dilemma at a time when his team is now in 14th place in the standings after winning two of their first seven games in the new League One season.
By the way, when Wigan came to Lincoln over the weekend, Saydee was facing Ryley Towler, a former teammate from Fratton Park. Similar to the forward, the defender has adapted to his new environment swiftly after leaving Fratton Park in the summer and has started every league game for the Imps thus far. Additionally, he helped James Collins score the second of his two goals against the Latics. As a result, Towler & Co. dropped to eighth place in the standings, one point outside of the play-off spots.
