“Not-too-distant” Norwich City chief deals major Preston North End transfer blow
Ben Knapper, Norwich City’s sporting director, stated that the Canaries intend to declare Jacob Wright, a loanee
from Manchester City, a permanent member “in the not-too-distant future.”
The 19-year-old midfielder has already expressed his desire to move permanently to Carrow Road, and in his 15
outings for the Canaries this past season, he recorded four assists.
There will likely be a lot of changes at Carrow Road this summer because the team does not currently have a
manager after Johannes Hoff Thorup was fired in April and Jack Wilshere was let go after serving as temporary
manager.
Norwich missing out on the play-offs was a disappointment, which ultimately led to Thorup’s sacking, and if they are
to improve next season and finish in the top six, they will need to hold onto their talented players.
Through YouTube, Norwich City’s sporting director responded to Pink Un’s question on whether he wanted to
finalise a deal for the England Under-20 midfielder by saying: “Yes.”
developed steadily,” Knapper added.
However, I believe that what I would say about Jacob as well is what he contributes on a daily and overall basis. You
would have even heard him on the pitch during the games.
“We’re talking here about a young man who, from an experience in senior football point of view, he’s at the very start
of his journey, but you would never think that from the way that he carries himself, the way that he approaches his
work day-to-day, he’s got huge leadership potential.
“Look, naturally, that puts us in a great position. Therefore, I’m hoping to update you on that in the near future.”
Anyone associated with Preston North End won’t be happy about this, as journalist Alan Nixon recently disclosed
that the Lilywhites were also interested in signing Wright during the winter transfer window and were considering a
possible summer move.
Knapper also discussed the current manager shortage with Pink Un, stating that it will not impact the hiring
schedule.
“Recruitment is booming right now. We’re prepared for what promises to be another busy summer. It’s important to
reiterate that idea.
“One person has never been the focus of our strategy and never will be. A head coach is not what it is. I’m not the
one. Player development, player trading, and playing a certain style are the organisational ideas that form the
foundation of our strategy, and they will not change.
“Whilst the head coach may be plugged out and plugged in, nothing changes in terms of our broader direction and
what we’re trying to do.”
Jacob Wright could be £2.3m bargain for Norwich City
As part of the loan deal that saw Wright move to Carrow Road in February, it was revealed that Norwich had
successfully negotiated the inclusion of a permanent buy option in the deal with Manchester City.
PinkUn have reported the figure as being £2.3m plus add-ons, which based off his performances in the second half of
the season, looks like a real bargain price.

Appearances | Assists | Dribble success | Tackles won | Avg. match rating |

Throughout the second part of the season, the teenager’s tackling, dribbling, and chance-creation skills were on full
display, making him a rock in the middle of Norwich’s midfield.
For just over £2 million, the England youth international might be one of Norwich’s best deals in recent memory. He
appears to have all the makings of a potential star central midfielder.
After losing talismanic central midfielder Gabriel Sara last summer, Wright might be the best long-term replacement
option. His potential is clear, and if he succeeds as a Norwich player, he might bring in a sizable quantity of money
for the team in the future.
