Nottingham Forest ‘make £34m offer’ for teenager as transfer plans take shape

Assane Diao, a winger for Como 1907, is rumored to have had an offer from Nottingham Forest this summer.

The well-liked adolescent has long been connected to a move to the City Ground. Since the initial rumors of the Reds’ interest surfaced a year ago, Diao has been the focus of conjecture.

After battling to get consistent playing time in Spain, he ultimately left Real Betis for Como in January for €11.5 million (£9.8 million). However, there are rumors that Forest has indicated their intention to sign him, thus he might soon be moving again.

According to reports, the Reds have offered €40 million (£34 million) for the 19-year-old. According to the Spanish newspaper Fichajes, Forest is willing to shell out a lot of money “to secure” his signature.

It is thought Como could find such a price “difficult to refuse”. Before deciding on his future, the Italian team can yet decide they want “to see more of their player.”

Diao has been in excellent form ever since moving to Serie A. In 14 league games, the Senegal international, who is regarded as “one of the most promising players in European football,” has scored six goals and contributed one assist.

Any action would benefit more than just Como’s finances. According to Fichajes, if the young player leaves for the reported sum, Real Betis would get 20% of any sale, or about €8 million (£6.8 million).

Additionally, Manchester United has been mentioned as a possible suitor for Diao. It was proposed that Feyenoord try their luck again after their bid was turned down last summer.

Juventus is also reportedly interested, according to Tuttomercatoweb. The Italian powerhouses are reportedly interested “mostly because” they thought Forest would make a bid of €40 million (£34 million) for striker Dusan Vlahovic, but the Reds “do not seem to be interested” in making such a move right now.

In order to cover and compete with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga, Forest recruited wingers Ramon Sosa and Jota Silva to Nuno Espirito Santo’s team last summer. However, as they continue to adjust to English football, the two newcomers have enjoyed a somewhat uneventful campaign thus far.

A special 48-page issue of the Nottingham Post honoring the team’s two European Cup victories has been created.
