Nottingham Forest place £51m Liverpool-linked gem on shortlist to replace Elanga

With Anthony Elanga expected to depart the team shortly, Nottingham Forest has to step up their search for new forwards.

Newcastle has agreed to purchase Elanga, with Forest receiving £55 million plus a number of add-ons to bring the total to £60 million. This news was revealed early in the preseason.

Johan Bakayoko from PSV has been linked to Forest as a replacement, as the Reds urgently need to improve Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

Igor Jesus was previously signed by Forest this summer, but they are in dire need of extra players, particularly in the offensive sections of the pitch.

Nottingham Forest still want Malick Fofana

John Percy of The Telegraph claims that although clubs are considering him, Forest still has Fofana on their shortlist of winger prospects.

Liverpool is interested in signing Fofana, and Lyon reportedly values the midfielder at £51 million. However, their financial troubles may influence a lower price.

Although it was previously stated that he wanted to see what else was out there first, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Forest had accepted a proposal for Fofana.

Since Fofana won’t be playing for Lyon in Ligue 2 the next season, the team can decide to hold off on making any calls until they know which division they will be in.

The 20-year-old has made 62 appearances for the French giants, scoring 15 goals and registering seven assists during his time at the club.

Fofana would be a risky signing

Since Elanga is so essential to Forest, it’s critical that the new member fill the vacancy in the team very quickly.

Fofana may not be able to accomplish that, though, considering that throughout his brief career he has only performed in France and Belgium.

Only if Lyon’s financial predicament tempts them to reduce the asking price and let Forest score a deal would this turn out to be a feasible signing.

It appears that the process of finding a new winger will take a long time, and ideally the hiring team has some preparations in place.
