Notts County ‘playing winning football’ – Paterson

Head coach Martin Paterson says Notts County “didn’t play great football” but benefitted from “really tense” training sessions in their 1-0 home win over Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Matthew Dennis, League Two’s leading scorer, scored his sixth goal in five games, lifting the Magpies to tenth place after their third win in a row. “It’s been the same for the last two weeks at half-time; I probably wasn’t someone to be around,” Paterson said BBC Radio Nottingham. “I’ve got two centre-forwards on for a reason, so when we get into dangerous areas, I’ll let you figure out what I want.” “We came out in the second half and started to be more confident in our passing and decision making. “We didn’t play terrific football, and I’m not going to hide from it. We’re winning football right now, and we’ve done an excellent job defending the box.

“We had a sense of unity, and I established a culture here. There will be days when we aren’t excellent and need to take points.”

Fleetwood had seven points from their previous three league travels this season and had more shots on goal than County, with home goalkeeper Kelle Roos saving six of nine. “They were excellent at playing proper football to win a game,” Paterson said of his team, which scored in the 46th minute.

“They were excellent at playing proper football to win a game,” Paterson said of his team, which scored in the 46th minute. “The group has been through some extremely tense sessions.” The remaining 15 minutes appeared to be a box defense practice session. “I’m quite pleased with the group, but they’ll understand that there are some things I’m not satisfied with. “We’ve played far better than that and received nothing. We’ve played significantly better football in terms of what you consider to be better football, such as passing rotations and line movement. On Saturday (15:00 BST), the county will host leaders Gillingham, who are four points ahead of them.
