There is a new transfer update on Dortmund’s move for Sunderland player Jobe Bellingham.
Sunderland and Borussia Dortmund are apparently nearing an agreement on the transfer of Jobe Bellingham, with the deal now understood to be close to conclusion.
According to BILD, the two clubs are no longer far off in terms of valuation, with Dortmund reportedly making a formal offer worth around €23 million (around £19.5 million), with an additional €5 million in bonuses. Sunderland, on the other hand, are believed to be asking for closer to £27 million (approximately €32 million) plus performance-related bonuses.

According to the source, while Sunderland might technically demand on a €40 million release clause, they are unlikely to do so due to their close relationship with the Bellingham family. According to BILD, the deal might now be concluded quickly, possibly over the Pentecost weekend, as Dortmund want to sign Bellingham in time for this summer’s extended FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
The tournament runs from June 15 to July 13, and with a short transfer window for participating clubs that ends on Tuesday, Dortmund are allegedly eager to ensure Bellingham can travel and compete. According to the German outlet, the 19-year-old might have a physical with the Bundesliga team as early as Tuesday or Wednesday. Bellingham made 45 appearances for Sunderland last season and is one of numerous young players who have thrived under the club’s youth-focused strategy after joining from Birmingham City.
What did Kristjaan Speakman say about Jobe and the other transfers?
Kristjaan Speakman believes Sunderland are prepared for key players to leave this summer, but he is convinced that the nucleus of the promotion-winning side will remain intact. While several other players have generated transfer interest, the club’s sporting director believes the majority will choose to stay on Wearside, as they have in previous summer windows.
“Over the past few windows, we have lost key players who would have been considered important, star players in the group,” Speakman stated. “You must always have a plan for the entire group. People desiring your players will be a result of having a great club, as I have always stated. There are a lot of players who have performed well for Sunderland that other teams would want if I were to search social media or the internet now.
“I take pride in that. The fact that those particular players performed so well that they received that distinction makes me proud of them. However, it is our responsibility to ensure that Sunderland is the place where people should concentrate, and I believe we have done so successfully over the past several years, which has led to a successful team.”
Speakman thinks promotion provides the team a good chance of keeping their talented players, as was the case when they gained promotion from League One, even if losing in the play-off final may have resulted in more departures.
