Off-duty PC praised for confronting armed robbers.
A deputy chief constable praised an off-duty police officer for confronting two men during a knifepoint robbery.
On November 2, Hannan and Humar Mahmood, ages 20 and 18, used a machete to attack a Met Police officer who intervened after they stole an electric bike.
The officer, who was accompanied by his wife, used plastic barriers to prevent the brothers from fleeing outside the Luton Point shopping centre.
The Mahmoods, of Belmont Road in town, were later apprehended and charged with intentional wounding, reckless driving, robbery, and possession of offensive weapons.
Dan Vajzovic, Deputy Chief Constable of Bedfordshire Police, stated that the force owed the officer “a debt of gratitude”.
“Without his heroic and selfless intervention, other innocent people may have come to serious harm and the dangerous Mahmood brothers may have been able to continue their criminal spree,” according to him.

The unnamed police officer obstructed the masked duo’s attempt to flee on the stolen bike.
He suffered chest and arm injuries, but he recovered and returned to work.
Detectives conducted extensive enquiries before tracking down and arresting Hannan and Humar.
They admitted to grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving charges at Luton Crown Court on Monday.
According to Det Insp Caeva Taylor of the Major Crime Unit, the defendants “were willing to risk killing” the PC in order to escape.
“The Mahmood brothers demonstrated complete disregard for the lives of those around them by robbing an innocent victim, waving a dangerous weapon, and driving an electric bike recklessly in a pedestrian area on a busy Saturday afternoon.
“The brazen violence they showed has no place on the streets of Bedfordshire.”
