Ola Aina signs new three-year Nottingham Forest contract

Ola Aina signs new three-year Nottingham Forest contract.

Ola Aina has signed a new three-year contract with Nottingham Forest that will run until 2028.

The Athletic reported in November that Forest were in early talks with Aina about a new contract, with his current contract scheduled to expire next summer after a one-year extension clause was activated after the team was confirmed to have survived relegation last season.

Aina signed a one-year contract with Forest in July 2023 after his contract with Serie A club Torino expired. He played consistently at left-back in his first season, as Forest avoided relegation and finished 17th in the league.

Forest exercised the option to extend Aina’s contract for another year in May 2024, and the Nigeria international has remained an important element of Nuno Espirito Santo’s defence, this time on the right wing.

Aina made 37 appearances in all competitions in the 2024-25 season, helping Forest finish seventh in the Premier League and reach the FA Cup semi-finals. The 28-year-old has made 59 appearances for Forest, scoring three goals and assisting twice.

Forest also signed Chris Wood to a new contract for the 2024-25 season and extended centre-back Murillo’s agreement until 2029. In June, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo signed a new contract that will keep him with the club until 2028. Aina came through Chelsea’s academy and made six first-team appearances.

He spent the 2017-18 season on loan with Championship side Hull City before moving to Torino the following season. The Italian squad exercised their option to sign him permanently in June 2019, and he went on to make 113 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He returned to west London for the 2020-21 season, spending it on loan with Fulham.Despite playing for England at various junior levels, the London-born Aina was called up to the Nigeria senior team for the first time in 2017 and has since earned 40 caps for the country.
