Borja Sainz: Norwich top scorer to face 'spitting' charge - BBC Sport

Olympiacos, the Greek champions, are interested in signing Borja Sainz, the leading scorer for Norwich City this summer.

According to Greek broadcaster Sport FM, Thrylos is interested in signing the winger for the Super League as he nears the end of his contract at Carrow Road.

The article claims that they face heavy competition from Bilbao side Athletic Club, whose academy Sainz emerged from. They have regularly been associated with their former player.

The 23-year-old is also from the Basque region of Spain, therefore Los Leones must recruit all of their players in accordance with club tradition.

Nico Williams, Bilbao’s desired wide player, has been linked with a move this summer, with Arsenal among the clubs interested in signing him.

Sainz is expected to attract interest from all over the world following a Championship season in which he was named team of the season and finished as the league’s second-highest scorers. Despite City’s poor 13th-place finish, he scored 19 goals in all competitions and assisted four others.

Galatasaray and Napoli, the Turkish and Italian champions, are apparently interested in him, as are Premier League clubs.

The projected appointment of Bristol City manager Liam Manning is unlikely to have a big impact on Sainz’s future, despite the fact that he described him as “a really, really good player” in November last year.

Sporting director Ben Knapper has spoken openly about the Canaries’ willingness to sell players at the proper price, as they did with Gabriel Sara, Jonathan Rowe, and Adam Idah in 2024.

When the transfer window opens, this pattern may extend beyond Sainz. Josh Sargent’s outstanding season has sparked interest, and Chilean international Marcelino Nunez’s contract expires in a year.
