Newcastle United has had a slow start to the summer transfer season, but it doesn’t mean they’ll lag behind their rivals.
When it was revealed earlier this week that Bryan Mbeumo, a forward for Brentford, would prefer to join Manchester United this summer, Newcastle United supporters were understandably a little disappointed.
After a disappointing season, Ruben Amorim and important behind-the-scenes players seem ready to spend big money trying to revamp the Red Devils’ team. Wolves’ versatile attacker Matheus Cunha, who was also linked to a move to Newcastle, has already been signed by them, and the Bees rejected their initial bid for Mbeumo.
A bid of up to £55 million was rejected by Thomas Frank’s team, which, if accepted, would have increased their early summer expenditures past the £100 million threshold. Earlier this week, Chronicle Live described how Man United was able to close these deals although Newcastle had a difficult season.
Three potential summer transfer targets appear to have passed over the Magpies in the first few days of the transfer window, especially when you include Liam Delap’s departure to Chelsea.
