Packers Taking Closer Look at Rookie WR With Major Injury History
In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers gave priority to the offensive end of the ball and didn’t pick a defensive player until Round 4. More precisely, the Packers used two of their first three draft selections on wide receivers in an effort to improve their wide receiver room.
Even though the draft is now official, general manager Brian Gutekunst’s job is far from done. He has been adding players to the squad in the days following the draft by inviting interesting prospects to camp and signing undrafted free agents.
Another wide receiver is the most recent undrafted rookie to obtain an invitation from Green Bay. According to his school, Virginia Tech playmaker Ali Jennings will attend the Packers minicamp the following week.
Jennings’ collegiate career has been an emotional roller coaster. He began his career in 2019 at West Virginia and stayed there for two years before moving to Old Dominion. After he excelled there, he transferred to Virginia Tech. He recorded 116 receptions for 2,025 yards at Old Dominion, averaging 17.5 yards per reception and 14 touchdowns in 22 games.
He experienced several bad points throughout his time at Old Dominion, but it was also the pinnacle of his college career. After making an immediate impression with a 72-yard, two-touchdown performance in the season opener, he sustained an injury that ended his Virginia Tech career two games into the season.
Jennings has been attempting to regain his prior level of performance ever since. He completed with 373 yards in 15 catches during his 12 games as a Hokie in 2024, averaging an incredible 24.9 yards per catch.
It’s unclear if the six-foot-two pass-catcher with a 4.50 40-yard speed will find a spot in the packed Packers’ wide receiver room, but he has enough potential to be worth a look by the league’s teams.
