Park Square siege: Everything we know about police incident at flats after nearly 24 hours
Police were on the Park Square roundabout during an incident at the Gateway flats in Sheffield’s city centre. February 11, 2025.
Armed police
Armed police were dispatched at 7 p.m. on Monday. At 4pm on Tuesday, South Yorkshire Police reported that Sheffield Parkway between Park Square roundabout and Derek Dooley Way was still closed in both directions as specialist officers negotiated with the man.
Congestion
It means that congestion is likely to worsen as rush hour approaches, particularly on Derek Dooley Way, which is now the primary route out of the city to the parkway. The closures this morning affected thousands of commuters, with some spending up to three hours trying to get to work. \
At 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Supertram stated: “Due to the ongoing police incident in Sheffield city centre, we are still unable to provide a full service across the network…. Thank you for your continued patience.
Alastair Ulke, a Star reporter reporting from the scene, said it was the largest police cordon he’d ever seen, and Sheffield was “at a standstill.”
Evacuated
The Gateway residents were evacuated and spent the night at Pond’s Forge Sports Centre.
The incident also impacted students living in the Pinnacles flats, located near the Gateway apartments.
