“Part of me understands” – Honest Blackburn Rovers, Tyrhys Dolan verdict issued as potential exit date looms

At the time of writing, the 23-year-old is expected to have his term expire in June and no agreement between the two parties has yet been achieved.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, conversations have been ongoing for more than 18 months but Dolan is poised to consider his options in the summer before arriving at a decision, leaving Rovers very much in the dark as to whether he will be remaining on heading into the 2025/26 campaign.

Blackburn will be able to earn a compensation sum if Dolan leaves to find a new club owing to his age, although that number will inevitably pale in comparison to what they could expect to receive from an outright sale in the transfer market.

Dolan, who has been with Rovers since the summer of 2020, has clocked up more than 200 appearances for the club and is presently having the best season of his career, playing a crucial role to the recent boost in form at Ewood Park under Valerien Ismael.

Season Appearances Goals Assists
2020/21 40 3 2
2021/22 36 5 3
2022/23 48 6 7
2023/24 39 5 4
2024/25 43 7 6

Though they might not be sufficient to help Blackburn secure a top-six finish ahead of a difficult final-day trip to third-place Sheffield United, the winger has recorded seven goals and six assists in the Championship this season, and his performances have been steadily improving recently.

Simon Middlehurst, our resident Blackburn fan commentator, was asked by FLW if he thought Dolan would lose if he left the Lancashire team this summer to join a Championship team.

Dolan’s status is undoubtedly being watched by other second-tier teams, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see many swoops planned if he decides to depart at the conclusion of his contract.

“It’s a bit of a weird one with Tyrhys Dolan,” Simon told FLW. “Obviously we took him on and gave him an opportunity when he was released from Preston.

He’s had a bit of a topsy-turvy time at Blackburn over the years, with performances being inconsistent.

” Simon acknowledges the short length of a player’s career and acknowledges that Dolan could be encouraged to join a Championship club with more realistic and direct aspirations of reaching the Premier League”
