Paul Ince reveals his secret behind masterminding Reading FC’s narrow victory over Middlesbrough
Reading FC ran out 1-0 winners over Middlesbrough at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the
Championship
The strategy to prevent Middlesbrough’s two full-backs from influencing the game on Saturday, according to
Reading FC manager Paul Ince, was the key to his team’s 1-0 victory.
Tyrese Fornah’s goal in the first half helped the Royals win by a slim margin at the Select Car Leasing Stadium,
giving them their third consecutive league victory at home.
Ince admitted he watched Boro in the run-up to the game and pinpointed the side’s wing-backs as the main threats
against Reading. And after the victory, he hailed the performances of Andy Yiadom and Junior Hoilett for thwarting
Middlesbrough pair Isaiah Jones and Ryan Giles.
Royals’ manager said: “Junior and Yids were sensational. The reason why I say that is because we watched
Middlesbrough play all this week and all their footage was about the wingbacks, Jones and Giles, all their goals come
from those areas.
“I said to the guys, if you can do a job on these two and don’t let them cross, you’ll win the game. Especially for
Hoilett because he’s not a natural left wing-back but him and Yids kept those two very quiet.
“Even when you give players tactical instructions, it’s not always simple for them to follow through on them. Both
Hoilett and Yiadom were utterly enormous. Not many issues were caused by Middlesbrough.
“They were only trying desperately to equalise towards the end, firing long balls into the box. Although it can
occasionally fall to someone, we were fortunate enough to get the outcome.
