Paulo Pezzolano satisfied with Watford’s Boreham Wood win

Paulo Pezzolano satisfied with Watford’s Boreham Wood win.

Paulo Pezzolano believes his team made a strong first impression by beating Boreham 2-0 at Meadow Park on Tuesday (July 8).

The Hornets were dominant, with goals from Imran Louza and Amin Nabizada holding off National League opponents, who only threatened late on when Nathan Baxter made a fingertip save.

Pezzolano has considerably higher expectations and admits he will never be pleased until the team achieves its ultimate goals, but he was heartened by what he witnessed.

Speaking exclusively to the Watford Observer, the head coach stated: “I am pleased that the initial impression for the fans was quite positive.

“Training has been intense, and the players have expended a lot of energy, but they responded well. “There will undoubtedly be differences throughout the league.

There will be differences in preparation and game plans. “But tonight, I enjoyed the situations we found on the pitch, and I liked the press in certain instances. “That was a good start.”

Pressing from the front and chasing back was a feature of the performance, with a few chances created from winning the ball back on the edge of the Boreham Wood penalty area.

Pezzolano is working hard on that area of Watford’s game, slapping his hands together to emphasise the need for a relentless work ethic now in order to be able to sustain it throughout a full Championship season.

He stated, “We’ve worked hard on this in training, but we have to keep going every day with intensity because that is the only way. “I dislike the comfort zone; it is not going to drive us to success. “I enjoy pressing high, and today was a mixed bag for me.

This is how we want to play, but it will also depend on the opponent; we must be adaptive.” Throughout the game, the visitors appeared to be in command of possession, with special emphasis on midfield movement and full-back rotation.
