PAXMAN COOLERS REVEAL PLANS FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART HQ ON HISTORIC TEXTILE MILL SITE IN HUDDERSFIELD

PAXMAN COOLERS REVEAL PLANS FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART HQ ON HISTORIC TEXTILE MILL SITE IN HUDDERSFIELD

A forward-thinking healthcare organisation is preparing to relocate to a brand-new, specially constructed

headquarters outside of Huddersfield’s downtown.

Paxman Coolers Ltd., a global leader in scalp cooling to help stop hair loss during chemotherapy, is relocating to a

former textile mill site at Fenay Bridge.

Paxman, a family-run business, is having a new 27,000 square foot facility constructed at the Turnbridge Mills

location on Quay Street by J L Brierley Ltd.

The new structure, which will include some demolition, will incorporate a health innovation research and digital

manufacturing facility, bespoke cryotherapy research facilities, engineering R&D space and offices.

Paxman hopes to move in early 2027 after submitting a planning application to Kirklees Council.

The location is next to Kirklees Council’s Station to Stadium Enterprise Corridor and the University of

Huddersfield’s National Health Innovation Campus, both of which are part of England’s third HealthTech and

Digital Investment Zone.

While J L Brierley has long looked for a method to revitalise the site after drastically cutting back on their textile

industry more than 20 years ago, Paxman has been looking for relocation sites for a few years due to the lack of

growth room at their Fenay Bridge production facility.

This investment will help protect the larger Turnbridge Mills property, which includes grade II-listed buildings,

while also giving Paxman the space it needs to expand its manufacturing output.

Richard Paxman OBE, the CEO of Paxman (shown above), stated: “As locally owned Huddersfield companies, we

wish to remain in the town, expand there, and contribute to the local economy in a larger way.

From the standpoint of innovation, Paxman has established a strong economic presence in the area through the

HealthTech Strategy for West Yorkshire.

We have exceptional chances for research and development, business expansion, skill development, and job creation

because we are surrounded by some of the top universities in the North.

“We are more determined than ever to invest locally and expand our presence.”

A family-run textile company and retailer, J L Brierley mainly provides high-quality yarns to the knitting and

weaving industries in the United Kingdom.

“This project represents a significant milestone in the evolution of Huddersfield’s economy,” stated Ian Brierley,

managing director.

“By collaborating with Paxman, we are investing not only in our companies’ futures but also in the health of our town

and community.”

Paxman revealed last month that it has acquired Dignitana, a major rival with headquarters in Texas, USA.

Dignitana is being acquired by Paxman, which is listed on Sweden’s Nasdaq First North Growth Market, for a sum of

£11.6 million.

The offer should be accepted by shareholders, according to Dignitana’s board, and a deal may be finalised in May.

When Glenn Paxman’s wife Sue lost her hair while undergoing chemotherapy, he launched Paxman in 1997.

With his brother’s help, Glenn created a liquid-based cooling system after realising that the current techniques for

cooling the scalp had flaws and needed to be improved after witnessing Sue’s trauma.

Paxman currently employs 110 people and has about 6,000 units installed worldwide.
