‘Please avoid the area’ – firefighters battle another blaze at old ski village.
Firefighters are on the scene of another fire at Sheffield’s historic ski area. Multiple calls were placed to emergency services after smoke was observed pouring from the Vale Road business. This afternoon.
Firefighters responded to complaints around 5.45pm today (April 23) and discovered about 10m x 10m of ski matting on fire. Two fire engines are now on the site. A spokesman reported a high volume of 999 calls regarding a fire in Sheffield. Firefighters are currently responding to an incident at the former Sheffield ski village site.
“Please avoid the area whilst our crews carry out their work.”

It’s not the first time the site has been engulfed in flames.
The Parkwood Springs Ski Village was devastated by fire in 2012 and has since been repeatedly vandalised. The artificial ski slope, which debuted in 1988, was once a famous attraction that drew tourists from all over the north, but it was plagued by arson attacks after it closed, and plans to revive it never materialised. Sheffield City Council has been attempting to make the site into a popular attraction for years, and while no firm plans have been revealed, work is thought to be underway in the background.
