Miron Muslic, the manager of Plymouth Argyle, has had his release clause activated by Schalke. The German powerhouses were only three points above the relegation zone after finishing 14th in Bundesliga 2 the previous season. Since firing Kees van Wonderen in early May, Schalke has been without a manager; nevertheless, it appears that they have found one.
Schalke activate Miron Muslic’s release clause
Schalke has triggered a clause to name Miron Muslic as their new head coach, according to Fabrizio Romano via X. The Plymouth boss, who is reportedly expected to join Schalke, was also coveted by Hull City, Köln, and Hannover. After being relegated to League One, Argyle had wanted to retain the 42-year-old, but Schalke has signed the manager for the upcoming campaign.
After Wayne Rooney was fired, Muslic joined the Pilgrims in January and instantly gave them new life. He was instrumental in their historic FA Cup upset victory over Premier League winners Liverpool. Despite being relegated by three points at the end of the Championship season, Plymouth planned to immediately recover under Muslic. He will now trade Home Park for the Veltins-Arena, though, since his immediate impact has drawn admirers from all over the world.
Muslic had demanded answers from Plymouth
The writing had been on the wall since the conclusion of the season, but Argyle supporters will find this news difficult to accept. In order to consider staying, Muslic deduced that the squad would need to make significant summer additions, namely hiring a sporting director and expanding the recruiting staff. The 42-year-old expressed his passion for the team more explicitly on X, claiming that his remarks were motivated by his annoyance with Argyle’s upcoming relegation to League One. Muslic did not, however, mention that he would eventually join Schalke as the Pilgrims’ head coach for the upcoming campaign.
“I have fallen in love with the football club from when I had my first experience of it in London all those months ago,” said Muslic. “I was really emotional during my news conference today, still reeling from our impending relegation to League One, and I expressed how much I care about Argyle and the Green Army, as well as how dedicated I am to the team and its future. “We are all upset about what happened, and I want the best for Argyle, but we must now make things right.” In light of the developing information, Argyle has recently posted a statement on their official website that reads:
Even though they have been in constant contact since the season’s conclusion and have not discussed any problems, Miron has now stated that this opportunity gives him the ability to spend more time with his family after being away from them for four years. We have put in place clear structures, procedures, and staff to support Miron and his coaching team as we want to make a quick return to the Sky Bet Championship, so we are disappointed by this decision. In addition, the team has made swift moves to add new players, and Miron has verbally assured the team time and time again that he is dedicated to Argyle and will stop at nothing to assist the team return to the second division.
After leaving Cercle Brugge, Muslic took a break from the game until signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Greens in January 2025. Only four months into that long-term commitment, he will now depart from Argyle. We hope his future career goes well.
