Police have provided an update on the 14 children arrested in a manslaughter investigation following the death of a 14-year-old.
On Friday, Layton Carr of South Tyneside tragically died in a fire near Fairfield Industrial Park in Gateshead’s Bill Quay area. His death was confirmed after Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service searched the building and discovered Layton’s body.

A total of 11 boys and three girls aged 11 to 14 were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
On Sunday evening, Northumbria Police confirmed that those arrested had been released on bail. According to a police spokesman, “All those arrested have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”
A fundraiser has since been set up to assist Layton’s family with the costs of his funeral. In less than 24 hours, the fundraiser raised £11,222, meeting the £11,000 goal. Stephanie Simpson started the GoFundMe page, hoping that the money would help Layton’s mother, Georgia Dingwall, cope with the stress.
