Police Issue Statement After Three People Injured in Crash Involving Officers on Willenhall Lane
A major collision involving a police vehicle responding to an emergency call has left three people injured on Willenhall Lane, prompting an official statement from the force. The incident, which occurred around 2:30 PM on Wednesday afternoon, involved a marked police car and at least one other vehicle, and has since drawn significant public concern.
According to West Midlands Police, the officers involved were responding to an urgent call when the crash happened. Emergency services rushed to the scene, with ambulances and fire crews attending to those injured and securing the area.
In a statement released shortly after the crash, a police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in a road traffic collision on Willenhall Lane at approximately 2:30 PM today while responding to an emergency call. Three individuals sustained injuries and were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.”
The statement continued: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the incident. We are cooperating fully with an internal review to understand the circumstances surrounding the collision. As is standard procedure in such cases, the matter has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).”
Eyewitnesses described the moment the crash occurred, with some reporting that the police vehicle was using its blue lights and sirens at the time. Local resident Jake Morrison, who lives nearby, said: “I heard the sirens and then a loud bang. When I came out, there were several people helping those in the cars, and the front of the police car was completely crumpled.”
Traffic in the area was brought to a standstill as emergency services worked to clear the scene and tend to the injured. Willenhall Lane was temporarily closed in both directions, with motorists advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The road has since been reopened, but investigations are ongoing.
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it had dispatched multiple units to the scene. A spokesperson stated: “We treated three patients at the scene and transported them to hospital for further treatment. Thankfully, none of the injuries appear to be serious, but we’ll continue to monitor their condition.”
The police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. “We’re appealing to anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have relevant video footage to assist our investigation. Your information could be crucial in helping us piece together what happened.”
