Police Release New Image of Missing 86-Year-Old Woman from Bexhill.
Sussex Police have released a new image of 86-year-old Marion, who has now been missing for more than a week, in a renewed appeal for information from the public.
Marion was last seen on Good Friday, April 18, around 8:30pm in Bexhill town centre. Since then, there have been no confirmed sightings of her, and police say they are increasingly concerned for her welfare. Officers, along with Marion’s family, are urging anyone who may have information to come forward immediately.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “The last known sighting of Marion was in Bexhill town centre around 8.30pm on Friday, April 18, and concerns are growing for her welfare. Despite extensive searches and inquiries in the local area, we have yet to locate her, and we are asking the public to check any CCTV, dashcam footage, or doorbell cameras they may have from that evening.”
The newly released image, taken not long before her disappearance, shows Marion wearing a light-coloured coat and carrying a small handbag. Police believe this is what she may have been wearing at the time she went missing. Officers have been focusing search efforts in and around the town centre, nearby parks, and coastal areas, but they stress that Marion could have travelled further afield.
Family members describe Marion as independent and active for her age, but they say her disappearance is entirely out of character. “She has never gone missing before, and she would always stay in touch with us,” a relative said. “We are very worried about her and just want to know that she is safe.”
Police and volunteers from Sussex Search and Rescue have been involved in door-to-door enquiries, and have conducted searches of open spaces, including the seafront and local woodlands. A command post has also been set up in Bexhill to coordinate the ongoing search efforts.
Chief Inspector Sarah Godley said: “We are doing everything we can to find Marion and bring her home safely. We continue to ask local residents and businesses to check gardens, sheds, garages, and any outbuildings where someone might seek shelter. Even if you think it’s unlikely, please check — any information could prove vital.”
The community has rallied together to support the search efforts, with dozens of volunteers distributing posters and helping to spread awareness online through social media. Several local businesses have displayed missing person posters in their shop windows.
Police have urged anyone who may have seen Marion, or who has any information, no matter how small it may seem, to contact them urgently. Members of the public can report sightings online, or by calling 101 quoting serial number 347 of 19/04. If Marion is seen at any time, people are urged to call 999 immediately.
As the search enters a critical phase, Marion’s family continues to hope for positive news. “We just want her home,” a family spokesperson said. “If anyone knows anything, please come forward.”
