
Police update on murder probe after two attacks in Reading
A man has been charged with murder in connection with a death that occurred in Reading.
At 11:37 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, South Central Ambulance Service alerted Thames Valley Police after
discovering a man in his 40s at a house on Maldon Close with severe stab wounds.
Tragically, the man passed away right there. Specially trained officials have been notified and are assisting his
nearest of kin.
On Sunday, January 5, Brett Mann, 49, of Maldon Close, Reading, was charged with one count of murder.
Mann showed up in Reading Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 6, after being placed under remand in
detention.
This is the second violent attack in Reading to occur within a few days of one another.
After being attacked in Prospect Street, two men in their 30s were discovered seriously injured and required hospital
treatment.

There is no threat to the larger population, and it is thought to be an isolated incidence.
An update on the Maldon Close murder investigation has been provided by Thames Valley Police.
Detective Inspector Rob Underhill, the investigating officer, stated: “We are sending our condolences to the victim’s
family and friends during this very trying time.
“We have made an arrest in relation to this incident, but we are still in the very early phases of this investigation.
“I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community and I understand that incidents like this are tragic
events.” We are certain, therefore, that the victim and the perpetrator are acquainted and that there is no greater risk
to the society.
“While the inquiry is ongoing, a scene-watch is in place at the address.
“This is probably going to stay in place for a while, and I would ask anyone who is worried to talk to any of our
officers that are on the site.
