Portsmouth rivals closing in on £600,000 signing as Spanish side lodge £5m bid for Championship ace.

Latest transfer news regarding Pompey’s Championship opponents. The transfer market is now officially open, and clubs across the Premier League and EFL can begin their business.
It’s likely to be an interesting summer at Fratton Park, with acquisitions and departures on the agenda as the Blues prepare for their second consecutive Championship season. Since the end of the season, a number of names have been connected with a move to PO4, albeit several have denied it. With the shutters officially down, there has been plenty of transfer rumour and conjecture circulating across the Championship. Here are the most recent headlines affecting Pompey’s second-tier rivals.
Norwich near Grimshaw move
Norwich City are negotiating a deal to capture Plymouth Argyle custodian Dan Grimshaw. According to Sky Sports, the 27-year-old is ready to join Carrow Road for £600,000 after the Pilgrims were relegated to League One. If things go well, the shot-stopper will have a medical this week as the Canaries seek to improve their goalkeeping department. Grimshaw lasted only one season at Home Park, joining Argyle in August 2024 for a similar price from Blackpool.
The former Manchester City youth product made only 22 appearances in Devon after falling out of favour with Miron Muslic. The keeper made only three appearances under the Austrian manager, who preferred to use Connor Hazard in goal. Grimshaw only maintained one clean sheet at Home Park, in November, when Plymouth defeated Pompey 1-0. It’s not the only transaction Norwich are working on; the Canaries are ready to announce the appointment of Liam Manning. Terms are purportedly agreed upon with Bristol City about the head coach, who led the Robins to a play-off finish last season.QPR to reject Spanish bid
Espanyol have made a £5 million approach for QPR midfielder Jonathan Varane, according to West London Sport. The La Liga club is eager to bring the 23-year-old back to Europe this summer following just one season in England. The R’s recruited the Frenchman from Sporting Gijon for £875,000 in July 2024, and he has made 39 appearances in a difficult start to his Championship career. Despite the possibility of earning £4 million for Varane, the Loftus Road club is anticipated to reject the offer, as the central midfielder is only one year into his long-term contract.
