Portsmouth saved themselves £500,000 as ex-Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic midfielder quits English football.

Panutche Camara, a former Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic, and Plymouth Argyle midfielder, was reported to be a Pompey target in July 2023, however he has left English football two years later.

Pompey were reportedly connected with a bid for Panutche Camara in July 2023, when John Mousinho began his first summer transfer window as manager at Fratton Park.

However, two years later, the midfielder has abandoned English football, hoping to put his injury nightmares behind him. Following a disappointing season at Crawley Town, the 28-year-old has agreed to join Scottish Premiership club Dundee United.

However, following their relegation to the EFL’s basement tier, the former Plymouth Argyle favourite has moved to the Scottish Premiership to restart his career.

The Guinea-Bissau international joined Dundee United for an unknown amount and has signed a two-year contract. He is Jim Goodwin’s latest signing, joining Australian forward Zac Sapsford and Moldovan centre-back Iurie Iovu. Camara’s departure north of the border comes his eight-year career in English football to an end, having played for Crawley, Plymouth, Ipswich Town, and Charlton.

‘After 8 years in England and English football, what a journey it has been for me,’ a message on X said. ‘Thank you for all that has happened to me in this nation; thank you Dulwich Hamlet, Crawley Town, Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, and Charlton Athletic for opening the doors in English football for me. And for those who have supported me, big thank you.’
