Reading have revealed that Portsmouth from the Championship will play their final pre-season game at the Select Car Leasing Stadium this summer. The Royals have announced a trip to Gillingham in July but have yet to confirm it, with arrangements still in the works. Two Academy fixtures have been announced, with teams travelling to Basingstoke Town and Thatcham Town on July 26, the same day the first team concludes pre-season at home against Pompey. Following their long-awaited return to the second division, John Mousinho’s side finished 16th and five points clear of the drop.
On their way to winning League One in 2023/24, they defeated the Royals twice, coming back from two goals behind to win 3-2 in Berkshire and 4-1 at Fratton Park. Tom McIntyre, a former Reading defender, has joined Pompey for £75,000 in January 2024. However, he fell out of favour on the south coast and spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic, making only sporadic appearances as Nathan Jones’ Addicks won the play-off final last month.
The 26-year-old is likely to be able to depart the club this summer.
