Portsmouth want to sign Golden Boot contender, club ready to do deal with Pompey

Portsmouth want to sign Golden Boot contender, club ready to do deal with Pompey.

Portsmouth will need to make substantial transfer market moves to build on a fantastic Championship season. After securing second-tier classification at the first attempt, John Mousinho must now infuse his team with talent. Despite Colby Bishop and Callum Lang’s combined 21 goals, the forwards are expected to be strengthened. According to recent sources, the Fratton Park team is looking to sign a player who is the league’s joint-highest goalscorer.

Portsmouth eye striker with Premier League interest

Goals have not been an issue for Portsmouth this season, but Mousinho would be wise to strengthen his attack. In addition to the aforementioned Bishop and Lang, Pompey have Josh Murphy, who has 21 goal involvements. However, the Fratton Park team cannot afford to sit back and watch their incredible successes; instead, they must invest. Finding a consistent scorer in England is expensive, thus Mousinho’s best option is to buy from outside. The News reports that Portsmouth are keeping an eye on Mjallby forward Abdoulie Manneh.

The 20-year-old has six goals in 12 appearances for the Swedish outfit and has been in eye-catching form in the league.

It is thought that Mjallby is willing to do business with Pompey, but no offer or bid has been made. Furthermore, interest from Burnley and Wolves is likely to make such a transaction even more difficult to complete.

Mousinho can elevate Pompey up the Championship

There is every reason to be optimistic at Fratton Park following a season of tremendous growth. However, there have been some concerns that their beloved manager, Mousinho, may leave this summer. Understandably, the 39-year-old has been in high demand, with numerous Championship teams looking for a new manager. Despite the links, Mousinho is still at Portsmouth and has confirmed his intention to building on the club’s achievements. Indeed, with the former Burton Albion player in charge, Pompey appear to have the potential to become a genuine threat in the second division.

The Fratton Park club has all of the components to expand on their success, including a cohesive group of players and tremendous support. Mousinho and Pompey complement each other perfectly, and they may continue to create memorable moments together.
