Sheffield Wednesday starlet Pierce Charles continues to draw interest with The Star stating Premier League, Bundesliga and Championship clubs are keen.
Sheffield Wednesday are heading for an uncertain summer with questions over Danny Rohl’s future and speculation circulating over a potential SWFC takeover.
The Owls will be in need of new recruits when the transfer window comes around, with manager Rohl insisting failure to recruit well could leave them in a next season. Having spent time around the play-offs this season, that would be a stark drop off at Hillsborough.

While incomings will be eyed, there is bound to be departures out of the Steel City too. One man who has drawn attention for some time is young goalkeeper Pierce Charles, and interest in his services persists.
The Star reports that interest from the Bundesliga is now emerging in the Sheffield Wednesday prospect. Though not specified who is eyeing him, Charles is also being eyed in the Premier League and at the top end of the Championship.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper is under contract at SWFC for another two years, so it will likely take a fairly sizeable transfer fee to prise him away from Hillsborough.
Charles is also happy with the Owls as he targets the number one role next season.
Charles’ long-awaited first-team chance
Sheffield Wednesday have been excited about Charles’ future for a while now. He has been in and around the first-team picture for a good amount of time but only really found opportunities in domestic cup competitions.
That has been the case until recently, with Rohl offering him a starting berth in the Championship as loan man James Beadle prepares to return to parent club Brighton & Hove Albion.

Though not without shaky moments, the Northern Ireland international has shown real signs of promise in his six Championship outings to date. Charles is still pursuing a first clean sheet though, something that may prove hard to come by amid SWFC’s defensive struggles.
Could a sale tempt Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t made many big profits on the transfer front for a while. Now though, in youngsters like Charles, Bailey Cadamarteri and Djeidi Gassama, they have some players with real resale value.
It will be hoped SWFC can invest in the playing squad regardless, but some within the hierarchy may feel a sale of Charles could fund their summer recruitment drive. The downside is that they would be letting go of a top prospect early, when holding onto him would only see his transfer value increase.
If any of the Premier League, Bundesliga or Championship clubs can make an offer Wednesday can’t refuse, a sale could be tempting. However, they are in a strong negotiating position and should be viewing Charles as their next long-term number one.
