Premier League ready: Sheffield United have struck gold on incredible star
With four losses from five league games in April, Sheffield United must reflect on their end-of-season performance in
the Championship and rue their luck. Burnley and Leeds United, on the other hand, played perfectly, relegating the
Blades to an undesired playoff berth.
Unexpectedly, United has a terrible playoff lottery hoodoo; in eight attempts, the South Yorkshire team has never
earned promotion using this dreadful knockout method.
Chris Wilder, who is fully aware that every player at his disposal must perform at the highest level during the crucial
playoff matches in order for Premier League football to return, will aim to be the manager in the Bramall Lane
dugout to break this dismal record.
Sheffield United stars who will be key in the playoffs
Wilder’s team had a fantastic season at this level following relegation, finishing with a scorching 90 points overall,
despite that collapse at the conclusion of the season.
Michael Cooper was a star player throughout the 46-game marathon, recording 21 clean sheets, and the defence
undoubtedly excelled during the season at Bramall Lane. The Blades will be hoping that their former Plymouth
Argyle custodian can step in if things go rough during the two-leg match against Bristol City.
Furthermore, Harrison Burrows, a former Peterborough United star, earned a healthy five goals and three assists
even as a defender, earning him a spot in the Championship team of the season in the left-back position. Can he
conjure up a moment of quality against the Robins?
Of course, there are faces such as Tyrese Campbell too who has ten league strikes this season, alongside loan star
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on seven.
However, there is another favourite among the United fanbase in attack that will be paramount to promotion being
sealed, with the explosive forward in question arguably already of a Premier League standard.
The “unbelievable” Blades ace ready for the Premier League
With Gustavo Hamer already being connected to a switch away before a ball has been kicked in the thrilling first leg,
it is unclear if the team’s best player would stay with them if another playoff error happens.
The former Coventry City midfielder is reportedly being considered by David Moyes’ Everton, who are obviously
surprised by the 27-year-old’s steady top-drawer performances in the difficult Championship promotion chase.
The Dutchman has scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 41 league games so far this season. In March, he
helped Wilder’s team defeat his former employers 3-1 with a wonderful free kick that found the back of the net.
Since Oli McBurnie, an ex-teammate, praised Hamer as a “unbelievable” talent, the 27-year-old’s incredible
attacking prowess has not gone ignored outside of South Yorkshire, as evidenced by his recent Championship Player
of the Season title.

Although the aforementioned table serves to further solidify his status as an EFL superstar, it also demonstrates the
Dutchman’s ability to make the transition to the top division. Despite his team’s dismal finish at the bottom of the
standings, Hamer managed to rack up a respectable four goals and seven assists in the 2023–24 season.
If given the chance, the United number eight should be prepared to return to the big time and succeed, especially if
he is accompanied by players who are better than his previous club at Goodison Park.
Hamer must remain in the team if United hopes to establish itself as a Premier League contender, thus Wilder and
company will only hope that promotion can be obtained through the playoffs.
