Preston reached an agreement with Sheffield Wednesday regarding full-back Pol Valentin

Defender Pol Valentín has been signed by Preston North End from Sheffield Wednesday on a three-year contract.

Since his arrival in Sheffield from the Spanish club Sporting Gijón, the 28-year-old has played 70 matches in the Championship. He spent a while with Valencia’s reserve team setup and made several appearances for Fuenlabrada.

His displays while at Hillsborough were key to evading relegation last season, helping the club secure a respectable 12th-place finish.

The Spanish full-back will aim to elevate his new club, Preston, which finished 20th and narrowly escaped relegation by just one point on the last day, to the same level as Sheffield Wednesday.

His contract is set to expire on July 1, at which point he will officially join the Lilywhites, pending international clearance and a successful visa application.

In a conversation with pnefc.com, Pol expressed: “I’m feeling so happy to be here. The moment they called me, it was as if they were saying, ‘You’re going to feel at home. You will have the impression of being in a family.

„Ich bin sehr stolz. I’ve talked to various individuals who have played here, like Bambo [Diaby], as well as those familiar with the manager or the club’s situation. They informed me about the club and claimed it’s the best fit for me. I was completely certain about coming.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom expressed his delight at signing someone with extensive knowledge of English football, especially the Championship.

“I’m very pleased that Pol is joining us. He arrives with solid experience at this level, and I’ve been impressed with him in the Championship over the past two years.

“He’s a sporty full-back who capitalizes on his speed to advance and adopt an aggressive approach in the final third. He’s another valuable addition to our team. ”

Joining the squad is Pol Valentín, along with Northern Irish international Jordan Thompson (38 caps), who transferred from Stoke City, and Danish goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, who joins Preston after Leicester City‘s recent relegation.
