Swansea City vs. Crawley Town preview: lineups, team news, and predictions

On Tuesday, Swansea City will play visitors Crawley Town at Swansea.com Stadium in an attempt to secure a spot in the EFL Cup’s second round.

Although their League Two opponents also lost their most recent match, against Newport County on Saturday, the Championship hosts started their domestic campaign on August 9 with a 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough. Swansea enters Tuesday’s match with a lacklustre attacking performance against Middlesbrough, managing only one on-goal attempt that came from a set piece in the 27th minute. Last season, the Swans scored just 51 goals in the league, which is their lowest total in the previous seven years. After losing 1-0 against Wycombe Wanderers in August 2024, Alan Sheehan’s team was eliminated from the 2024–25 competition, despite having advanced to the second round of the EFL Cup in the previous two seasons.

Although the hosts’ loss to Middlesbrough was their only competitive match of the season, it was their third straight defeat (including friendlies), during which they gave up seven goals. During the penultimate stretch of their most recent season, Swansea was outstanding at home, winning five, drawing one, and losing only one of their last seven games played there. In their second League Two match, Crawley Town fell 2-1 at Newport. They failed to create a significant opportunity and gave up two goals in quick succession halfway through the second half.

In their two 2025–26 games, the visitors have picked the ball out of their own net five times, which is the same number as they had in their five prior competitive games. Although their last encounter was a friendly in July 2019, Crawley has only faced Swansea twice, losing both games 3-2. In addition to losing their three friendlies before the current season began, manager Scott Lindsey has presided over two losses at the beginning of 2025–26, with a combined score of 5-1. Given that they have only won once in their last nine competitive away games and lost six of them, the Red Devils’ road performance has been subpar.

Due to injuries, the hosts will not have defender Filip Lissah, therefore Josh Tymon, Kaelan Casey, Cameron Burgess, and Samuel Parker might play. Melker Widell and Goncalo Franco, two Swansea midfielders, could play behind Oliver Cooper, the number ten. Leading the line is anticipated to be striker Zan Vipotnik, who could be positioned between wide forwards Ji-sung Eom and Ronald. With players like Josh Flint, Dion Conroy, and Charlie Barker vying to play in a back three, opponents Crawley have a completely healthy roster to pick from. Gavan Holohan, an attacking midfielder, would be asked to provide up opportunities for Kabongo Tshimanga, a centre forward.
