Proposed Chargers trade for Jalen Ramsey would be comedic gold for Raiders fans

Remember when the Raiders were included in the Jalen Ramsey trade rumours? These were the days. I clearly did not favour the notion and was always very opposed to it, even publicly. Don’t even bother fact-checking that; simply trust me. I always thought that was a horrible idea.

Now that he’s no longer considered a likely target for Pete Carroll (which is kind of odd?), we can have a good laugh at other teams who are willing to spend a *tonne* of money for a player who will be good for, hopefully, a couple more seasons while being paid top-dollar for far longer than that. A big name player, presumably past his prime, attempting to force his way into a warm environment with a large brand? That’s a Los Angeles Chargers speciality, if I’ve ever heard one. So it’s not surprising that our beloved (“”) Chargers were featured in ESPN’s mock Ramsey trade exercise this week.

Jalen Ramsey to the Chargers feels like a nightmare that just must happen.

“The Chargers don’t need Ramsey, but they do have something other teams don’t: enough cap space to absorb all of Ramsey’s guarantees.” The Chargers have slightly less than $32 million in 2025 cap space, but more than $118 million in 2026 (the most in the NFL, according to Roster Management System). Ramsey, who would likely push free agency signing Donte Jackson into a backup role, would boost the defensive ceiling for a club that has the potential to become a legitimate contender.

“The Chargers don’t need Ramsey, but-” is all I need to know. They are going to do it. I am confident that they will force their free agency signing into a backup role for Ramsey. That says Chargers all over it. And maybe it will work for around 15 games. But Ramsey’s on the hook for checks *well* past 15 games, and if the Chargers want to spend some of that beautiful $100 million on a man who won’t be on their team by the conclusion of his deal, I say let them. It will be a fun thought experiment.
